WindsweptKisses 09-12-2005, 11:26 AM SHANGHAI, China - A restaurant in northeastern China that advertised illegal tiger meat dishes was found instead to be selling donkey flesh ? marinated in tiger urine, a newspaper reported Thursday.
The Hufulou restaurant, located beside the Heidaohezi tiger reserve near the city of Hailin, had advertised stir-fried tiger meat with chilies for $98as well as liquor flavored with tiger bone for $74 a bottle, the China Daily reported.
Raw meat was priced at $864 per kilogram.
The sale of tiger parts is illegal in China and officers shut down the restaurant, only to be told by owner, Ma Shikun, that the meat was actually that of donkeys, flavored with tiger urine to give the dish a "special" tang, the newspaper said.
The report didn't say how the urine was obtained.

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German brewer has concocted what he says is the world's strongest beer, a potent drink with an alcohol content of 25.4 percent that is served in a shot glass.
"Everyone who has tried it is enthusiastic. It tastes like a quirky mixture of beer and sherry," said Bavarian brewer Harald Schneider.
Schneider, who lives in southern Germany where beer is a tradition, said his beer fermented for 12 weeks for an alcohol content twice that of Germany's other strongest beers.
"People will only be able to drink two or three glasses, otherwise they'll drop like flies," he said.
Schneider expects the holders of the world's strongest beer, the Boston Beer Company, to put up a fight.
"I'm pretty sure the Americans have something up their sleeve."

Ever wondered how a lion feels, trapped in a zoo cage? Visitors to Zagreb's zoo can find out, with two cages there set aside for humans as of Friday.
The cages which visitors will be able to enter and leave at will are labeled "Homo Sapiens" and are even partially furnished.
But the project, launched by the head of the zoo, Mladen Anic, goes beyond offering a behind-the-bars experience to warn about human devastation of nature.
"We wanted people to get a perception of how the animal perceive the cage," Anic told The Associated Press. "But we also wanted to inform people about all the ecological problems for which humans are directly responsible."
One cage is for "good man," and is furnished with things made of natural materials bamboo chairs, and water and fruit displayed on a wooden table. The other, for "evil man," has materials that harm nature plastic chairs, and garbage in the corner, with a note above the mirror reading: "The most dangerous beast on the planet."
The "good" cage contains brochures on how to protect the environment; the "bad" one shows how it is being ruined.
"I hope this will make people think about the fate of ourselves and our planet," Anic said.
Already on Friday, dozens of people toured the cages. A group of youngsters amused themselves by throwing food to friends in the cages.

WindsweptKisses 10-11-2005, 01:47 AM Dead Python Had Tried to Eat Six-Foot Alligator Spectacle Raises Discussion of Nonnative Species in Everglades By DENISE KALETTE, AP
MIAMI (Oct. 5) - The alligator has some foreign competition at the top of the Everglades food chain, and the results of the struggle are horror-movie messy.
A 13-foot Burmese python recently burst after it apparently tried to swallow a live, six-foot alligator whole, authorities said.

When he helped rescue her, he later asked her name and when she gave it, it rang a bell. He realised it could be the baby he helped deliver in the back of an ambulance...turns out she was! The reunion made them vow to stay in touch.
edgewarewolf 10-14-2005, 05:12 AM More Weird Mating Habits: The longest-lasting copulation, according to University of Arizona biologist John Alcock (interviewed for an August Knight Ridder story), is that of the lowly "stick insect" (of the phasmida family), which goes on for several months at a time, even though, he said, it is "not clear this is welcome to the female." The male attaches himself to the female's back, which allows her to continue with her daily routine during the mating, while also discouraging competitor males. According to other biologists, some ticks spend up to eight hours on what resembles foreplay, and butterflies, snakes and houseflies can also go on for hours. At Northern Ireland's Belfast Zoo in September, Phoebe the chimp and two others managed to climb out of their compound, and armed security guards had to come round them up. In an effort to frighten the animals into submission, they fired shots into the air, and according to the reporter for The Guardian newspaper, the chimps not only became docile at the sound of gunfire, but they put their hands up. [The Guardian (London), 9-8-05]
In September, veterinarian Jon-Paul Carew of the Imperial Point Animal Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., surgically removed a 13-inch-long serrated knife that had been swallowed by Elsie, a 6-month-old St. Bernard puppy, and the dog is now doing fine. The blade was lodged between her esophagus and stomach for about four days and was detected by an X-ray. Said Elsie's owner, "She wants to eat everything and anything." this is what is read from Mr. Ramon Tulfo "US Stand firm, so what" sa inq7.net today.

Near Tampa, Fla., in May, Robin Key, 44, survived a .38-caliber gunshot through the windshield of her minivan when the bullet came to rest in her lap after being slowed by hitting her shoulder belt and bra strap. And in New York City in April, Glenda Clarke, 26, in a rest room of a nightclub when a gunfight erupted outside, survived a bullet that tore through a door, grazed her scalp, and came to rest in her thick hair weave. A so-far-unnamed 15-year-old New York City girl (a student at the once-most-dangerous Hillcrest High School) was arrested in May and charged with attacking three classmates by biting them viciously on the face, necessitating plastic surgery for at least one, who had a chunk of flesh gnawed off before bystanders could restrain the girl (described by classmates as a "goth vampire"). "She was trying to get to my jugular," the victim said. "For some reason, she just likes to bite." [New York Post, 5-1-06; WABC-TV (New York), 5-6-06] In May, a judge in Edmonton, Alberta, ordered Shee Theng, 30, to serve a nine-month community-control sentence for partially scalping his then-girlfriend by attempting to "style" her hair with a power drill, a technique he said he learned about on a TV infomercial. Theng admitted that he knew it was a bad idea because he had previously screwed up his own hair trying it out. [Edmonton Sun, 5-11-06]

edgewarewolf 06-30-2006, 12:29 AM An Iowa tribunal turned down Chris T. Coppinger's demand for unemployment benefits in May, following his firing from a charitable fund-raising company in Davenport for various alleged indiscretions. Among the company's charges was that Coppinger had had sex on top of his desk with a co-worker, but Coppinger argued that that should not be a terminating offense, since many other company employees had had sex on his desk, too. Never Give Up: Ronald Blankenship, a shoe repairman in Birmingham, Ala., finished second in June's Democratic primary for sheriff and was placed in a run-off, when the Birmingham News discovered details of an apparently shady past: faking his death in connection with an insurance policy, assault and passing bad checks. Blankenship's defense, a week later: It must be another Ronald Blankenship (even though "both" men have the same middle name and birth date and coincidentally are married to women with the same first, middle and maiden names). The Latest American Right
In the course of an April ruling that the New York City school system had gone too far by firing Toquir Choudhri for poor work habits, administrative law judge John Spooner declared that city workers have a "right" to surf the Internet for personal use while at work. Choudhri was expecting reinstatement, but two weeks later Chancellor Joel Klein fired him anyway, citing poor work habits beyond his Web-surfing. (Choudhri was unavailable for comment, in that he was suspected of being on leave in a country on whose tourist Web sites he had been lingering.) [New York Post, 4-23-06, 5-6-06]

The house had tipped off the beams and into the neithbors window! What a strange sight it was! Poor guy, his house was unsalvageable and had to be demolished!

In a mass grave dating to the 1500s on the Venetian island of Lazzaretto Nuovo, this skull of a woman was found with a brick shoved in its mouth. Researchers think gravediggers came upon the skeleton and feared she was a vampire.

A restaurant in Germany has just started serving insects on its
menu three days ago. Chef Lars Schebuble said he was bored with
serving typical food and wanted to try something new. "While I
was away on holidays I saw that insects are eaten in many parts
of the world,...and I thought, why not offer it in Germany too,"
he said. There are items on the menu such as cockroach pasta,
and sauteed maggots with green leaves that are available al
Berlin's Soda restaurant. Customers have tried the food and
some say they would come back for more. No one has yet
complained of stomach problems.
